I just ran the Humpy’s Marathon a few days ago. Immediately following the race, in my post-race exhaustion and need for consumption, I limped into Humpy’s for an Alaskan Amber ale and a very tasty meaty burger. Mmmm. Great place, rather busy. But I think it was worth it.

Humpy’s sponsors a marathon (plus a half, 10k and 5k) every year. Check it out…the course runs along the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail.

How this place changed my life

I used to work there with the gang back when it all started. ‘95?
The best beer joint EVER! Don’t miss out on the the halibut tacos.
Cheers to Bill and James and Angie…
Even stranger that I worked with Angie at the Clarion Hotel before Humpy’s was even a thought. I bet she doesn’t remember.

friends birthday

a big group of friends and i went here as our first stop for one of our friends 21st birthday, we had a blast! great people, great setting, indoor and outdoor seating which in july was nice to enjoy fresh air and sunshine till 2am or so(kind of funny they had a space heater on the patio in july-downtown gets breezy that close to cook inlet) the drinks are great so’s the food and it just feels like you are with friends and family in there. the booths and tables inside are great, lots of neat decoration…..

Better than Koots

It seems like Humpy’s is new—then again, I left Anchorage 20 years ago so everything seems new when I head up for a visit (usually twice a year). At any rate, a couple fellas from West High opened this bar/restaurant and it’s been a raging success since day 1. I visited a couple weeks back with Joe Dugan, Malea and my brother Conrad. It was the end of June so the sun was up late and we happily sat in the back outside dining area knocking back pints and stiff drinks in lovely downtown Anchorage.

I’ll give Koots another try the next time I’m up, but I much prefer the friendly vibe and downtown location of Humpy’s. Visit Humpy’s and say hello to James & Billy for me.
