beautiful city – developing very rapidly

While Almaty was founded in 1854 as the country’s second capital, Astana has been the capital since 1997, and much to the chagrin if Almaty’s inhabitants is now attracting most investment and government money.

I’ve been here for a total of about 2 years, the weather is a bugger. The city itself is in a stage of transformation from a god-forsaken little town to what is envisioned as one of the great capitals of the world :) well, best luck.

Construction sites everywhere, mercilessly cold in the winter, dirty in spring and autumn, dusty in the summer. Windy all year around.

Sightseeing in the city itself is good for one day top. Nature around the city is appealing to people liking the steppe type of terrain.
