Rennes-le-Château

Since reading The Spear of Destiny and Holy Blood Holy Grail back in the late 1980s, I’ve really wanted to visit this place.

I know the Priory of Zion story is crap, but it doesn’t mean I can’t search for (and find) Templar treasure.

While staying in Cascastel, my aunt, cousins, other family, and myself took a side trip to Rennes-le-Chateau. The drive was long, but well worth it. It’s a rather quiet place; we didn’t see many people. We walked through the village and through the church. All in all, it was an eerie site. Inside the Chruch of Mary Magdeline is a statue of the devil holding several angels above his head that was particularly… interesting.

I was the only one who went through the museum. Everything was either in French or English and histories of the area were given.

I enjoyed the trip, but I did find the place unsettling. A must see if you’re in the area, though.

I read “Holy Blood Holy Grail” WAY before “DaVinci Code” and have been dying to go here ever since then. Sadly now it is probably swarming with tourists all the time…
