Lake Superior aka: Gichigami,Gitche Gumee

Labor Day 1983, when I crossed the Mackinac Bridge on a bike.

I saw this lake when I went to Ontario on vacation and we heard all about how massive it is: that it could cover all of North and South America with 3 inches of water, that all the other great lakes could fit inside it, and so forth. And this summer I saw it from the air when I came back from France. It was just like being over the ocean – I couldn’t see any land, even from that high up. It was unreal.

I went summer 2005. It was sweet!

Our family saw Lake Superior for the first time 3 years ago when we vacationed in northern Ontario (Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie). One day we drove north of the Sault and stopped along a beach for the boys to have a swim. It was cold water, but they had fun and there were plenty of tall pines nearby, truly scenic. What a beautiful location between Wawa and Sault Ste. Marie!

Waded in Duluth and it was NOT warm! I found a really cool fishing net float on the beach.Jake and I went to the Maritime museum.the ships that go on this body of water are Enormous, the lake is like the sea. what i didn’t like were the annoying sea gulls! cute for awhile then just pests.I remember Jake saying it must be the ocean because you couldn’t see the other side.
