Essaouira

One of my favorite places in Morocco, it is peaceful and relaxing way to spend a day or weekend. It is also one of the UN’s World Heritage Sites. The city is a colony for artists, has many nice cafes and restaurants when you are tired of walking and want to rest. There is also a beach to visit. The ancient medina offers many handicrafted items, including the locally-made thuya wood products, silver and other jewelry and fresh local argan oil. * One word of caution for the ladies, most days in Essaouira are very windy, so wearing a full-skirt is not recommended.

Essaouira is one of my favorite places that I’ve ever been. A relaxing seaside town with plenty of sights and smells and a real bustling local culture. The medina is lovely and interesting without being overwhelming, and the locals are beyond friendly. I recommend Dar Afram if you’re looking for a good hostel to stay in! Great people, comfortable lodging in a beautiful riyad, and the best food I had in Morocco.

Wonderful place to eat fresh fish. Go and buy fish direct to the fisherman when they arrive to the harbour. They grill it for you right there.

Great combination of arab and french culture. Chill out, surf , shop, explore – take your pick. Look out for the local art – it’s really interesting.
