Catalina Island

I hear it’s beautiful. I lived near Los Angeles for five years and never went. I will like to take all my graduation guests / fans here for a weekend when I get my PhD. Insha’Allah.

Avalon seems to be a big draw because the ferries mostly arrive here, but Twin Harbors is much less touristy and there is camping there – there IS a ferry that goes to this location.

i already made the reservations! we’ll be staying at the seacrest inn… it wasn’t my first choice, but las flores la paloma was already booked cuz of a wedding. hohum. but the seacrest seems nice enough. a whirlpool tub for two.. that’s about all my husband and i wanted! month and a half, i’m so excited!
it’s okay if it’s touristy… i’m really not going for much of a cultural experience. every place i’ve been has been about a cultural experience and i’ve never allowed myself to really be a tourist. so, i think it will be a fun, once-in-a-while indulgence. whatesle would someone want on their one year wedding anniversary!? indulgence is about all I can think of… :P

i miss being on an island. so for now any island will do. my husband and i will be celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary this july. we don’t have TOO much money or time to spend so we are going to take our anniversary weekend and go to catalina island. we live in palmdale, CA, so it’s not that far for us. won’t be that expensive and will be a break from the extremely hot temperatures of the high desert in the middle of the summer. jamey will be in training around that time, so we’ll only have weekends to do anything fun. we’ve never been there and it looks like a wonderful place to get away from everyday life for a couple days. i think it will be a blast!

A good place for couples.

I WENT THERE ON A CRUIZE….ITZ VERY DIFFERENT BECUZ THEY USE GOLF CARTS AS CARS. WE WENT TO THE BLUE PAROT FOR LUNCH AND I GOT THE FISH AND CHIPS. WOW….THAT WAS LIKE 4 YRS. AGO AND I STILL REMEMBER….AND I MEMBER LOTSA BEES. UGH NOT COOL

My grandmother’s ashes were scattered here.

I lived here for 9 months at a YMCA camp about half an hour away from Avalon, the main city, by water taxi, in a cove. It was the best time of my life… like a trip back in time to the 1920s. Everything was so simple in Avalon – one movie theatre showing one movie, one grocery store, everyone knew everyone else. Felt like there was such a sense of community, something you just don’t get in L.A.
