Sils-Maria

When I was little my parents used to take me to Sils-Maria for skiing in winter and hiking in summer or fall. Sils-Maria is one of the most beautiful places in Switzerland. Not as expensive or high society as St.Moritz, even though it’s very close. My fondest memory is when one winter, the lake was frozen solid with no snow on top and we could ice-skate across it. That was absolutely wonderful.

Definitely worth your time if you’re around.

I went here because it’s Nietzsche’s birthplace. I wanted to see what he saw to try and gain an understanding of how the climate and mountains influenced his philosphy and life. I was very impressed with Switzerland and Sils Maria. I recommend this destination for anyone wanting to better understand Nietzsche. I’d also recommend it for anyone wanting a trip with very impressive hill walking, reasonably-priced accommodation, good food and relatively low levels of tourists in the summer season.
