Palais des Papes aka: Pope's Palace

of how powerful and wealthy the papacy was. I personally enjoyed the external views of the Palace more than visiting its vast interior with its (what seemed like) unending rooms. Not much of the original decoration is left – I lost count of the number of times there “had” been a tapestry here or a painting there, but it had been destroyed or removed for some reason.

i loved visiting here, i found the palace to be quite fascinating.

I’m throwing in the French name, since this fantastic castle on a cliff is in France. It has a pretty cool Web site too, in English, French, and Italian. The castle is VERY medieval. The town of Avignon is really, really nice too.
