San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park aka: San Diego Wild Animal Park

Been there, done that! Travelled from the east coast and next time I’ll travel to South Africa for safari. It couldn’t be anymore expensive…

Thought I’d share a photo of the new baby elephant, taken on Saturday (March 17, 2007). The yet-to-be-named male calf is 6 days old in these shot.

There are lot’s of great shows with the animals here, as well as a more interesting setting. And when everyone gets tired you can go on the tram around the ‘African Savannah’.

There’s a new baby elephant in the herd! A male calf was born on Sunday, March 11, 2007 at 9:14 pm to first-time mother Litsemba.

Here’s a little bit of background: this herd of African elephants were rescued by the WAP from Swaziland in 2003, where they were scheduled to be culled due to overpopulation. The birth on Sunday marks the third since the herd arrived at the WAP in 2003. Two other elephants are also pregnant and due to give birth later this year.

Mother and calf are doing fine and are being watched around the clock by keepers and researchers. They are currently secluded from the rest of the herd, but can be seen from the Elephant Overlook.

Don’t you just love happy endings?!?

If you love animals and have kids that love animals then this is the place to be. My favorite part about this park would definitely have to be the butterfly exibit. You can stand in a cage filled with butterflies and they will come so close to you -I had one land on my head!!!
