    Zoo  — 1 year ago

    Not worth it!

Been there, done that! Travelled from the east coast and next time I’ll travel to South Africa for safari. It couldn’t be anymore expensive…

Thought I’d share a photo of the new baby elephant, taken on Saturday (March 17, 2007). The yet-to-be-named male calf is 6 days old in these shot.

A review of this place: I actually like it better than the zoo.....  — 1 year ago

There are lot’s of great shows with the animals here, as well as a more interesting setting. And when everyone gets tired you can go on the tram around the ‘African Savannah’.

There’s a new baby elephant in the herd! A male calf was born on Sunday, March 11, 2007 at 9:14 pm to first-time mother Litsemba.

Here’s a little bit of background: this herd of African elephants were rescued by the WAP from Swaziland in 2003, where they were scheduled to be culled due to overpopulation. The birth on Sunday marks the third since the herd arrived at the WAP in 2003. Two other elephants are also pregnant and due to give birth later this year.

Mother and calf are doing fine and are being watched around the clock by keepers and researchers. They are currently secluded from the rest of the herd, but can be seen from the Elephant Overlook.

Don’t you just love happy endings?!?

Wild Animal Park  — 1 year ago

If you love animals and have kids that love animals then this is the place to be. My favorite part about this park would definitely have to be the butterfly exibit. You can stand in a cage filled with butterflies and they will come so close to you -I had one land on my head!!!

Went to the WAP on a class trip a few weeks ago and got to see the lion cubs interacting with their father. It was SO CUTE! He’s a doting dad and the cubs love to play with him.

Here’s a picture of the three of them hanging out. Notice Dad nuzzling with one of the cubs, and the other one vying for his attention!

If you want to see the cubs, I recommend you get to the WAP early and head straight there, from what I’ve heard, the cubs are only out for a few hours a day, first thing in the morning.

Went to the Wild Animal Park a few days ago and saw the new baby elephant. She is really cute!!!

Born on September 11, 2006, the yet-to-be-named calf is a month old today!

If you want to see the baby and her mother (and many of the other Asian and African elephants), make your way over to the Elephant Overlook, which is tucked away near the back of the Park, past the entrance to the Wgasa Bush Line Railway.

    It’s worth the trek!

A tip I have about this place  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

There’s a cockatoo that sits inside the Plant Trader Gift Shop named Max, who’s been dubbed the Wild Animal Park’s “unofficial greeter”. He’s been around for over 25 years and loves to say hello to park guests.

His vocabulary includes “How are you?” and “Hello Max” plus a healthy dose of wolf whistles and duck impersonations – the latter courtesy of his white-faced whistling duck neighbors.

Drop by and say “Hello Max” – kids especially get a kick out of it when he replies!

I fed a giraffe. It’s just like feeding a horse, cause you have to keep your hand flat. My family did a three day trip to San Diego. The wild animal park was one of our days.
