A review of this place: BORN IN BROOKLYN, RAISED IN STATEN ISLAND  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

MY PARENTS AND I MOVED TO STATEN ISLAND WHEN I WAS JUST ENTERING 2ND GRADE, I AM NOW 27 YEARS OLD SO I SPENT MOST OF MY LIFE SO FAR HERE. I WOULDNT SAY THAT ITS A GREAT PLACE TO VISIT BY IT IS THE BEST PLACE TO LIVE. NO MATTER WERE YOU LIVE IN STATEN ISLAND YOU HAVE ACCESS TO MANHATTAN, BROOKLYN,NEW JERSEY.
IF YOU TAKE THE FERRY OVER FROM MANHATTAN (FREE OF CHARGE) YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION MAY BE A LITLE LESS THEN MAGNIFICENT. TO SEE THE TRUE BEAUTY OF THE ISLAND YOU HAVE TO GET ON THE TRAIN FROM THE FERRY AND GO ABOUT 6 STOPS TO THE SOUTH SHORE OF THE ISLAND. I LOVE STATE4N ISLAND AND I HAVE BEEN ALL OVER THE WORLD. THIS IS MY HOME EVEN IF I MOVE AWAY.

How this place changed my life  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

I was born in Staten Island and its the only place I could ever call home. I think its great how no matter where you go from Pathmark to Blockbuster your always going to run into someone you know. I also think is great that most people on that island are Italian which makes things alot easier (if some doesnt speak english they speak italian). I love that crazy island.

A tip I have about this place  — 2 years ago

    Not worth it!

i lived there for 2 years and it was the worst place i’ve ever lived. horrible traffic, nasty people, and it’s not close enough to the city to warrant actually moving there. just move to brooklyn.

It smells bad, and there is nothing to do. Staten Island is in a good location it’s not too suburb and not too city. It is wright by the city, so u din’t have to have the hectic city life, but u can still go there when ever u want. Staten Island has some history to it. You can go to Richmond town. Which is a very historic city, to learn about the history of Staten Island. It’s not a good vacation spot, but it’s an ok place to live

The last time I went to this place  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

went last weekend on the Ferry for the first time in 4 years. What a difference. It was a beautiful Sunday, just the right breeze from the Bay. The area around the ballpark and the Sept 11 memorial were a pleasant surprise. Not the SI I remembered.

    Not worth it!

The ferry trip is definitely worth it – free, runs all day and night 7 days a week, and no serious queues, but you can still see the statue of liberty and a vista of manhattan – which was good for people like me who slept in and missed the statue of liberty ferry.

I don’t really have the authority to say it’s not worth it since I just got off the ferry and almost straight back on (it seemed like either you were a tourist and got straight back on or a local going home who knew exactly what they were doing, so i wasn’t brave enough to get a bus to find out), but the impression I got was that it was just lots of suburbs full of republicans, and like someone else said, i didn’t get to see the wu tang clan either.

i feel vindicated in saying this given how many locals have said it’s not worth going. I am willing to be persuaded however, as I think that just about anywhere is worth going to for some small reason or other. It’s just that some places are MORE worth going to :P

    Not worth it!

Only a few things worth seeing. No reason to go back since my parents have moved. It was an okay place to grow up as a kid, but as a teen and in my twenties, it was boring. Since I have left, it has gotten even more crowded and overdeveloped.
