Liberty??? by cranberrygoddess

Am I the only one who saw the irony in the fact that the ‘liberty’ bell is guarded by the wackenhutt corporation (specialists in private prisons and refugee detention centres around the world), who submit you to an exhaustive search (they spent a long time looking at my insulin, for example) to get in to see… a rather small, cracked bell.

I first heard of this bell on the simpson’s when homer tried to pretend he had 3 liberty bells on his scratchie in the quick-e mart. I was also interested to find out it came from Whitechapel in London, not far from where my dad grew up.

It closed at 4:45 and we got there at 4:50. But we got to see it through a window. The line to have gone in and see it was out to the street. I’d rather just see pictures of it online.

I’d love to go back, now having seen the movie “National Treasure” with Nicholas Cage.

This is an interesting piece of history. I enjoyed it. Maybe my lack of American History made it a fresh and interesting experience.

It’s cool to see once in your lifetime… but beware! It’s just a regular bell! Don’t get your hopes up.
