i used to live in this remote and rugged gem of a place … and it stole my heart! i worked as a photojournalist so got to go exploring quite a bit .. i went back for a visit about 5 years ago and it is already a totally different place .. but if you love fishing, diving, camping on the sand around a fire, 4X4 driving in areas from where you are likely never to return, unusual people with interesting stories, crocodiles, snakes, pearls, fabulous sunrises and stunning moonrises, sand dunes and white empty beaches, deelish seafood, floods and king tides, cool dark green swimming holes, artists, electric thunderstorms, glowing pindan cliffs, community, and make-you-gasp scenery .. get yourself a 4X4 and go exploring! better still get yourself a local pilot to fly you up the coast and leave you up there for a couple of days. i’m not mentioning any specifics because i want to head back sometime in the future and still find some places untouched … and if you want pearls, the only place to buy is from bill reid at linneys!
