Worth visiting!

And if you thought getting into Balcony House was rough...

Just remember this. Once you get there, you still have to leave.

To get out requires the visitor to crawl through a very narrow tunnel. In fact when you buy your ticket for the Balcony House tour at the Visitor Ceter, they have a small wooden box for you to crawl through. The box is the same height and width as the tunnel. If you can’t get through the box, don’t even think of going on the tour. Everybody in my family made it through the tunnel, I even had an inch or two to spare. However, I know some people who opted out of goignt to Balcony House because they did not pass the fit check.

Once you leave via the tunnel then there are a about three ladders, each about ten feet high that you have to climb to return to the trail head area.

My youngest daughter was a bit scared at Balcony House and keeps telling me that she doesn’t want to come back here again.

Not for the faint of heart

Balcony House is one of the more difficult ruins in the park to visit. Just to get to Balcony House you must descend a steel staircase down the side of a cliff. Once at the bottom there is a short walk to and then you must climb a 32 foot tall ladder to enter the ruins.

The ladder looks a bit intimidating at first. And the longer you look at it the more intimidating it appears. But the ladder is actually very sturdy, and very steady. As long as you don’t look down, even the most acrophobic of explorers should do well.
