How this place changed my life  — 6 months ago

    Worth visiting!

This was WOTM’s inaugural walk – we walked the length of the wall from coast to coast. It was the first of our long distance walks – great experience, didn’t know I had it in me.

    Worth visiting!

We made this a stop on my first trip through the UK. We visited a couple of different spots along the wall on the way to Scotland. Its impressive that someone, or rather multiple people moved that many stones to build a wall stretching that far. What dedication!

Why I want to go to this place  — 1 year ago

The Elliot clan were border reavers up until the time of the combined kingdom under James. And though they likely did not live near the wall while it was being built, I have a desire to see the land of my ancestors.

although i spent my time here being ill so didn’t really go outside much( and went in Winter so was cold and windy and just horrible). what i did see of the place seemed to be nice. went on a walk along the top, great views and would be good walk if i was helthy at the time. i’d definatly go back there- (although not to the same accomedation as had mild food poisioning.) all-in all a nice place.

hadrians wall  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

went with hubby and kids, walked along the wall to where they filmed the bit in Robin Hood(starring kevin costner and morgan freeman) where they have just arrived on land and they climb the wall and there is a solitary tree( does any one know the scene that I am on about?) just amazing to be aware of the sheer scale of the wall, makes you wonder what it was like for the men that were there to build something of such great significance.

    A great memory  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

I visited a section of the wall on my first trip to the U.K. as we drove up from London to Scotland. We wanted to see the wall, but had a lot of trouble finding any of it. We were about to give up, as darkness was starting to fall, when finally we found the right place on the map, and were able to arrive at one of the sites. This was the first time we experienced having the “right of way” on private property – we had to climb a sheep fence to get to the site. We found the wall (which was impressive, just to think of its antiquity), but the thing that really stays with me was that we were standing in the midst of a flock of sheep, some of whom were bleating at us occasionally. It was lovely and peaceful, and such a nice moment on that trip.

    Hadrian's Huge Wall  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

Actually seeing it in person really makes you realise what an amazing achievement it was! Good walks along the wall too. I suppose it is officially now just one long walk! Part of the walk goes to Sycamore Gap which is where Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman were filmed in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves when the young boy is driven up the Sycamore tree by the Sheriff’s men for stealing deer…remember?! You will do when you see it!!

Deforested farmland littered with abandoned military buildings sure can be beautiful!
