    Worth visiting!

We visited Lucy for the first time a few weeks ago. As we got close it looked different than the website. The top was missing! Lucy was struck by lightning the end of lst year and the viewing deck from the top is on the ground being repaired. Can’t wait to go back after it’s repaired. They stamped our stubs, and they are good for a free visit anytime in the future.

For me, this was about the only redeeming quality to the Jersey Shore between Atlantic City and Cape May. Granted, I was having a bad day, and that influenced the level of excitement, but Lucy seemed a pleasant change in the redundant Shore.

I had heard about Lucy and thought it would be a laugh to go and see the “tourist trap” that I thought it would be. However, upon pulling up to Lucy and jumping out of the car, I stood there with my mouth hanging open, bouncing slightly on the balls of my feet, like a child that has to use the restroom. I can’t properly explain the feeling you get when you first see Lucy. She really is quite beautiful.

I actually can’t remember if I ever saw Lucy in person, or just (because I grew up in the area) “met” her through newspaper, magazine and tourist articles and brochures, or family and friends’ pictures….she seems so familiar. Not that you see a elephants with people walking around inside them, every day.

She’s not exactly in Atlantic City, but rather in Margate, two towns south. But if you’re in Atlantic City, do not miss the opportunity to pay a visit to one of America’s oddest, and most wonderful sites, Lucy the Margate Elephant.
