Franz Josef Glacier

Visited here on the Kiwi Experience bus – took the chance to do a full day glacier walk while I was here. Its great up on the glacier – and fun to play with ice axes :-).

I only had a short time in Franz Josef so, despite the expense, I took the helicopter ride up over the glacier landing on the snowfields above.

The views were stunning – it was money well spent. I’d love to have spent more time exploring the park.

Franz Joseph is better than Fox

New Zealand is one of the most beautiful places on the planet! Also check out Mirror Lake when you’re there and make sure you hike up on the glacier.

I lived in Franz Josef for a year – most beautiful place to be and absolutely fun filled – don’t take it at face value or you may miss the best bits :)

I did my first Sky Dive here and it was awesome!

Hiking/exploring the Franz Josef Glacier was one of the most thrilling and intense activities I have done.

Crossing over lichen covered rocks and passed trickling and thundering waterfalls alike with the soaring view of the frozen glacial river are memories forever inscribed in my mind when I think about the beautiful walk to Franz Joseph.

At 8:00 at night, the air was moist and fresh and the white glacier shone like a white beacon amidst the dense green forests. It truly is one of earth’s many miracles and a must see in our short lifetime!
