Cafe Apropos

My wife, son and I used to live around the corner from Cafe Apropos, and it was a frequent stop for us. Everyone who worked there was always very friendly and accommodating to our 2 year old son meandering through the place. Great coffee, great ice cream and great wine tastings. When I visit Ohio this summer, I’ll definitely go there – I highly recommend it to anyone!

This place is NOT in the Short North, it is actually west of Victorian Village in a neighborhood called “Harrison West” and it is AMAZING. Don’t just stop in for coffee, but plan to stay a while. The owner is a super nice guy and his staff go above and beyond to make the place special. Plenty of windows and tables. If your lucky, you can score a seat on the nice big comfy couch by the fireplace. Caffee Apropos is one of the most memorable places in Columbus!

Oh, and did I mention the corking service? Yep, but a bottle of wine from their collection and they’ll open it for you to enjoy right then and there. Classic touch!

Egads…. there is a dry cleaner next door that used to actually clean there… now is a pick-up/drop-off and the soot and debre used to clog the air conditioner units. All is well and good because the problem of overheating is solved and life is real swell again! Tempurature = NORMAL! Viva le-Panini!

These people work REALLY hard to keep it going in an area that has seen some amazing changes! They roast their own coffee here…. does it get any fresher? Wine tasting on Friday nights…. recently got their license to sell wine and beer by the glass/bottle. You will think you stepped into a Cafe in Europe when you enter and the atmosphere is over-kill from any other coffee shop in town. Pay them a visit… totally worth the trip… very romantic! Best dang iced mochas on the planet! Keep up the good work you guys!!!

Café Apropos is well-situated on a secondary street in the Short North district of Columbus. The coffee shop has many large windows that offer good views of other interesting late 19th c. buildings.

The owner is usually present to run his own shop (even until 11:00PM) and he takes care to make certain that the desserts are presented well and that the shop is clean.

The coffee shop also offers free wireless Internet access and has numerous electrical outlets running on the exterior walls for laptop users.

Although this venue is commendable in many ways, it is also notable that the temperature in the shop is always too hot, probably about 15°F higher than what is comfortable. While the coffee will wake you up, the temperature will put you to sleep. Yet, overall, Café Apropos is worth a visit and many return visits.
