This Chinatown is so small compared to the other ones. I live in NYC so our Chinatown completely tops this one. This one was more like a “mini” one, we drove and within minutes we were out of it. There are a lot of markets and stuff around but nothing special.

A1.

Of all of the Chinatowns I’ve been to (even with Canal Street being just a few subway stops away) Toronto’s is definitely the best.

A review of this place: authenticity

it’s culture @ it’s best. i love that pedestrians come before a car. i am delighted to see active older men and women getting together on the benches. seafood lounging outside of the shops, grabbing the attention of a passerby. i’ll take classic chinatown over the pricey richmond/markham bunch anytime.

It’s a nice neighbourhood for the most part (and in Olivia Chow’s riding, so that’s a plus), right by Kensington and the AGO. The corner of Dundas and Spadina was the first place in Canada I saw a TD sign in Chinese. Don’t expect to be greeted in Mandarin though; it’s mostly Cantonese here, and our sing-song Canadian Cantonese at that, apparently. Good places for bubble tea abound, but all the city’s abuzz about all of Chinatown’s glory being sucked up north to Markham, where Pacific Mall is accreting stores and culture like a jealous black hole.
