A review of this place: leaving for Quetico tomorrow

Driving 5 days to get there, canoeing for 12 days.
I look forward to having a sandy beach all to ourselves.
I have experienced extreme solitude for days in this park. It was scary the first time but I’m ready for it this time. I plan to videotape timelapses of clouds.
This is our third visit.

Beautiful, peaceful, unspoilt area. Wildlife abounds among lakes and islands. You can go days without seeing another person.

Quetico

is probably the wildest area within a day’s drive from the area in which I grew up. It’s not the sort of place to just go on a whim.
After I finished work on my first degree I went there with a group of college students and some former professors. It was the most amazing week. There are some wicked portages and breathtaking (literally) views on said portages. There is something very real about being days away from civilization.

Similar country to the BWCA, but more remote and wild. Home to the most singular and beautiful lake I’ve ever seen.

Quetico is my favorite place in the world. I spent 3 summers canoeing/backpacking there, and it really is the most peaceful place. The water is so pure you drink right out of the lake. Nature completely untainted by man. Anyone who enjoys nature and camping should take a trip there. I always went through the Voyageur Wilderness Programme, but there are a number of outfitters to choose from. Truly nature as it was intended to be experienced. http://www.vwp.ca
