Uxmal

I agree with everyone’s comments below. I’ve been to Coba, Tulum, Chichen Itza, Ek’Balam, Labna, Kabah, Sayil, and Xunantunich (in Belize). Uxmal is my favorite by far. Chichen Itza has such beautifully restored structures and Tulum such a great setting but both places are so crowded and closed off now. Uxmal is beautiful with the different layers. And, at least for now, you can climb many structures and touch the stones. It was so much more than I had imagined! Also, the night show is much, much better than the one at Chichen Itza. I recommend the Uxmal show.

uxmal is ten times less crowded than chichen itza and the sales people are all outside the gates instead of coming up to you constantly while you are trying to look around and enjoy yourself. not to take away from chichen itza because it was great too, but i wish i had visited these ruins first. that’s my recommendation to those headed down.

It’s way better than Chichen Itza. More interesting and less crowded.

Chichen is great, but there’s something about the fact that not as many people go to Uxmal and it’s just as amazing. Be the first person up the Pyramid of the Magician in the morning—I ended up climb racing another determined American tourist, and I won! (heh.) It’s okay to hold onto the chain; nobody will think you’re a wimp. :)
