Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

Amazing to stand at the base of the lighthouse and look up.

We have been several times but the best time was when we arrived just before sunrise and no one was there.

This is back before they moved it.

There were ducks swimming in a little pond and a bunny hopping by.

Then we watched the sunrise.

It was a wonderful memory for the kids.

When I was in the Scouts, my troop went to Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, and camped at the base of the lighthouse. We were woke up at 3am by a tropical depression, and the rain was washing everything out to sea…

How nice!

The first time was 1971 when I got to walk all the way up into it!

Get there early cause they close at 4pm on the dot! The first time I went there I got there at 4:05 and wasn’t allowed to go up the tower.

This is a must see if youre on the outer banks. One big suggestion to all those would-be-travelers: visit sometime between easter and coulumbus day because if you visit outside that time frame (say, 3 days after columbus day) you wouldnt be able to climb to the top of the light house :(

Even tho it was a gloomy and cold day, i still got some nice pictures … check them out :)

I went here every year as a child. I remember climbing it years and years ago and my flip flop fell down the stairs!

It’s the definition of a lighthouse.

We were actually married at the base of this lighthouse nine years ago.

This was the first real lighthouse I saw and was in, which is a big deal for a girl who grew up in Wyoming. I didn’t even see the sea until I was 8 or 9. The niftiest thing to see from the top of the lighthouse is not the ocean, but the coast and all the people playing on the beach.
