Vineyard Haven

I no longer live here. I moved in Loddefjord (near Bergen) Norway in September to live with my half norwegian half american wife while she goes to pysiotherepy school. I will,however, be visiting for Christmas/newyears from the 21st of Dec. to the 11th of January. How can I make such a long visite? Well, unfortunately, I still have no job in this country, so I’ll actually be working at Brickman’s a bit (especially before Christmas) while I’m there. I’m very much looking forward to it.

I went shopping.. it was just great.

My mother was born and raised here on the same property I live on now. We moved here when I was 8 and I’m 20 now, so most of my memories are here. VH has been a great place to grow up. I could walk everyone, including school, untill high school, I’d bet I’m connected to half the people in town through fammily and freinds. When I first moved here people I didn’t know would wave to me because some how or another they new that my grandfather was Rod Backus. I guess the only problem with living here year round is the expence and not being able to go off-island anytime you please unless you own your own boat. Also, the boredom for local kids often leads to drugs and other crap.

Anywa, this place changed my life because it shaped my life. The teacher’s, friends, family, and strangers here have all pitched in to form the person I am today. Weather they did a good job or not is up to the individual, but I’ve enjoyed the large majority of it and I generally like the man I am today.

Cute little town. Lots of cute little shops. A great place to kill some time while waiting for the ferry.
