More places to eat than you can shake a stick at!  — 2 years ago

Worth visiting!

We ate at a Fish & Chip shop there. We ate “al fresco” and the fish and chips were served in a basket. The fish had been battered fresh and it was lovely. If I ever get back to Melbourne, I’d go there again (Lygon street). The whole of Carlton is lovely, I’d love to live there!

I always hear the Skyhooks song in my head when I think of it…
“Well, Lygon street’s really got me beat, I can’t seem to stand on my own to feet.”

Worth visiting!

Best Canelloni I’ve ever had (at an ‘authentic’ italian restaurant I went to in Sydney they hadn’t even heard of canelloni!) Some of the best ice cream i’ve ever had. Rivals little italy in new york for authentic italian food. I wish we had a Lygon St in Canberra!

Worth visiting!

Papa Gino’s is a must. The mushroom pizza there is to die for. Next door, Coretto’s serves a wonderful Salmone pasta. Great coffee at University Cafe… and it goes on and on… =)

Ok food, but generally over-rated  — 2 years ago

Worth visiting!

I say ‘worth visiting’ only because everywhere is worth visiting, but Lygon St is totally over-rated. Some ok restaurants, but generally overpriced because of the popularity of the area. Also crowded, noisy and touristy, so you might have to be in the right kind of mood…
