    Worth visiting!

This place has supposedly lost its charm according to the people who were here pre-gentrification, but I find it charming. Lots of street musicians. Harvard hasn’t done much for the mentally ill, homeless population. I’ve had a few uncomfortable encounters with one particular person but they’re harmless.

A review of this place: I love my home, sweet home, Harvard Square!  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

I grew up about a mile from here and in my youth this was my stomping ground. Most of my best memories take place in this area. It is always a vibrant place to visit, and I bet at any given time there are people from every single country in the world in Harvard Square doing one thing or another. This is a must see for any visitor to the Boston area.

A tip I have about this place  — 1 year ago

Go to Algiers Coffee House and get some “Turkish” (or “Arabic”) coffee. It is great! One of the few places to get it in the Boston area.

The last time I went to this place  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

was last weekend. It was the perfect spring day; the trees were the greenest I’ve seen them in years—even for Massachusetts, the sky an inviting deep blue with dancing cumulus clouds, moving happily as if the wind tickled them as it slided through their skin. After a walk through Harvard Univ. and several shoppes, we had a scrumptious lunch at Au Bon Pain on Brattle St. As we munched on our earthy lunch, a Janis Joplin look- and sing-alike echoed softly… quite possibly the most magical plant nursery I’ve seen exists next to the bakery. I wouldn’t doubt if several species of elves, fairies and mythical creatures inhabit this leafy locale with rustic brick walls which can barely be seen through the foliage.

One of my favorite places! Very lively place with music and all sorts of great shopping and places to eat. I used to go there to write music or study when I wanted to get away from the Back Bay and Berklee.

Especially in the summer  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

I remember a few summers back I was visiting a friend in Cambridge and one night he took me to Harvard Square. There were music bands on every corner. The place was so lively! Lots of restaurants, good bookstores… I remember thinking that this is the place I want to live!

I lived there before, and would do it again  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

Everyone should live here for at least one year. Four is best. Five is too much. Three is less than four but more than two.

All city and town planners should be forced to study Harvard Square. Maybe they too would become little universes unto themselves, where most anything in the world could be got within a few square blocks. Anything related to culture, that is. Riding lawn mowers might be in short supply. But if you want a book on architecture, say…well there is an entire bookstore devoted to nothing but. That sort of thing.

But the people are really what makes it a groovy place. One wonders if Brother Blue is still enchanting town and gown alike.
I take it Tracy Chapman moved on.

I have too many memories to even begin to tell them. Instead, I will just give it my highest recommendation.

One of the coolest places you can go  — 2 years ago

Perfect in winter, if you’re bundled up, but awesome in Spring, Summer, and fall as well!

Right Up Top the Uno's  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

I lived in Harvard Square, above the Uno’s, for two years. Went away for a few, and now I’m back, though a couple blocks further away. I love Harvard Square. Especially during Winter Break and right after graduation, when it’s nice and empty.

So much fun! I love hanging around in the pit during the fall, as well as looking through all of the shops and just talking to people that are around.
