Central Market’s pretty good as far as grocery stores go. My favorite thing that they have here are the sundried tomato stuffed green olives. I thought I hated olives until I tasted these.

We love it! Believe it or not, Central market is one of the “tourist attractions’ we show out-of-town guests!
In Austin we are totally spoiled by having 2 Food Market meccas within minutes of each other. Central Market has that neighborhood-easy atmosphere, with staff always ready to help with the odd question, cooking classes with expert foodies of all types, and seasonal specials that have you looking forward to next years “kumkuat season.”
Great place to feed your fresh produce fetish. (Look for the micro vegetables next time.. ohhhhhh, my my!)
Even our very maintstream-eater relatives have asked to re-visit!
And of course, close enough for regular shopping, and counter folks that will help you with whatever you fancy.

My fiance, who used to live in Austin, took me here a few years ago, and it was amazing. The beautiful seafood, countless wines and cheeses… wow! It’s worth a trip to Austin just to go here (and then get a Mexican martini at Trudy’s!).

Whole Foods gets all the press, but Central Market is a better place to shop on a regular basis. It’s the best grocery store I’ve ever been to. We lived in the North Loop area and Central Market that’s more..umm…central was close. I miss the Hatch Chile Festival, John the British cheese dude, the whole produce section.
