I’d never seen so many white people in one place in India before. I was only there only a week, long enough to realize that it would take a while to figure out what’s going on here – e.g. the relationship between Auroville and the surrounding communities.
I was there when the tsunami hit in December 2005, so first/second-hand learned how much immediate service was done totally ad hoc – the tiny restaurant just outside Auroville that i was eating in every day just started making extra food, then got a truck and drove it to wherever people from the coast had moved to.
