Piton De La Fournaise

We visited Piton de la Fournaise during an eruption, arriving there around 4:00 in the morning. If you are on Reunion when it erupts, it is worth getting there any way you can- visiting at night is good because you can see the lava more clearly. It had been raining when we were there so there was a cloud of steam over the lava flows. The coastal road can get very congested with people wanting to see the eruption, there is an option to do part of the trip inland, which I would recommend (sorry, I have no map of Reunion handy to elaborate)
