Worth visiting!
Hike
Went back to Gros Morne this summer for my vacation. This time around, I actually hiked up the mountain, camped overnight in Ferry Gulch, and hiked down the next day. A 16 km hike, 800 m elevation. Saw several moose at the campground and caribou right on the summit. It’s a tough climb, but it’s something I can always look back and say “I’ve done that.”
Definitely worth it.

Cousin and his family heading over this month
I may not be getting to Nfld. this summer but my cousin and his family are travelling from Cape Breton this month. I know full well that upon their arrival home I’ll get a phone call and he’ll fill me in on the trip.
What I need to do is plan ahead, say,”I’m doing this come hell or high water”, and just do it!

Most Beautiful South Eastern Park
This is by far the most beautiful National Park in the Atlantic provinces. Great hikes with beautiful scenery and some great geology and geography to see and feel. What a Place!

Introduction to Gros Morne National Park

"Gros Morne" translates roughly from the French as "big gloomy," and if you arrive on a day when ghostly bits of fog blow across the road and scud clouds hover in the glacial valleys, you'll get a pretty good idea how this area got its name. Even on brilliantly sunny days there's something about the stark mountains, lonely fjords cut off from the ocean, and miles of tangled spruce forest that can trigger mild melancholia. Gros Morne National Park is one of Canada's true treasures, and few who visit here fail to come away awed. In fact, it's been officially designated as one of the world's treasures. In 1987, the park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which in large part reflected the importance of an area called the Tablelands. This geological quirk formed eons ago, when a portion of the earth's mantle broke loose during the continental drift and was forced to the surface, creating an eerie, rust-colored tableau.
