this place is life changing. i have recently been through hell and back due to a broken relationship and engagement. so the first time i went it was like finding god, pure bliss. people here are beautifut, sweet and highly inebriated. the second time, was like the honeymoon i never had. zeigeist has done nothing but make me love SF, it’s people, it’s beer and myself. thank you. ccc

I was living upstairs on third floor across from David and down the hall from Stacey (circa 1990). A 10×10 room with a queen size loft big enough for a futon. Sink in the corner and the toilet and shower down the corridor. Not bad for $289 a month. The floor of my space was fire engine red. So when the sun was up from 11am to 1pm, it would reflect a great redness throughout my flat. Blinding me and crushing the hangover migrain. The bar downstairs was our livingroom. It was great. There were only about six or seven beer taps and a great selection of bottles. The drugs were good and weed was even better. Everyone was leather clad and had some some sort of two wheeled metal horse. I remember the motorcycle shop next door was just opening. The pool table was in the front as you walked in and the Black Knight Pinball machine was in the back. The patio was sparce with picnic tables (some of which David and myself built by the way) and Whitey was just starting the Hot Links cook out business. Hanz was the owner at the time and would take us up to the Toronado on Haight for some Belgisk ales.

I miss it. The last time I was the there, the pool table had been moved to the back and the place seemed to be more commercialized; less of the so called raw personalities of the late 80’s early 90’s and more of the mundane tourist.

I wish I could remember more of the names of the faces that hung out there then…

God, I love Zeitgeist by NedRaggett

Now that my sister’s moved away from that area of the City I’ll have to see about persuading her to bring a bunch of our friends over there anyway. But she loves it too so it shouldn’t be hard. On beautiful days it’s the perfect place to be.

A great birthday destination by Jennifer

Unless a majority of your group is drunk and on drugs. Then things get a little dicey.

Overall, though, Zeitgeist is great. It’s got the strangest mix of people in the world, all mostly defined by their love of being outside when it’s nice, and the ability to smoke weed while they drink a pitcher of beer.

The bathrooms are gnarly, though, and the some of the bartenders can be real bitches.
