Pine Ridge Indian Reservation

I also was very touched by my brief visit to Pine Ridge. (About half a day) It’s very true that poverty is all around, but there was a noticable determination also. I visited Red Cloud’s grave and Wounded Knee.

It’s a place that will never, ever leave your heart. You’ll find that you leave understanding so much more about your own life, as well as the US and its history, and how very, very long-term the consequences of our policy can be. I won’t tell you more. Just go.

Lived and worked at Holy Rosary Mission, teaching at Red Cloud Indian school from 1991 – 1993. Worth visiting. One can also visit the Heritage Center at Holy Rosary. Brother Simon, the curator, probably knows more about Native art than anyone I have ever met.

Good place, good people, good fun…etc

I think this is someplace worth visiting, and it really makes you realize what the Native American Indian’s have been through and what they’re still going through to this day.
