A tip I have about this place  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

If you are coming from Memphis, just stay on Hwy 61 South right on past the casinos. Once you get into town, you’ll see the Blue & White cafeteria on your right. Go there. Order anything. Enjoy.

Miss it but ...  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

I “discovered” Tunica when I went down last December for a Montgomery Gentry concert held at the Horseshoe. Well, I was hooked—not on gambling, etc. but the relaxation! A mere two hours from my ranch, it seems like a world away! So I continued to go perhaps once a month or so and yes, I do a little gambling but I never go over the amount I’ve set for myself beforehand. I’m very blessed that I receive many comps down there but in June I stopped going. My whole trip was comped—a Jacuzzi suite for five days, meals, and I was given $50 to gamble with. But I just couldn’t go, and I’ve not been down there since. I wish I could go back to that feeling of relief, total relaxation but somehow I don’t feel I deserve it. I miss it.

A tiny casino town with a very surreal feel to it.

I'm not a gambler, but I still had fun  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

My friend and I went to Tunica in May to celebrate her birthday. I don’t gamble, but I still had a really good time. Tunica is a casino town, and from what I could tell, that is where everything happens, but you can still go to the casino without having to gamble a lot (or at all if you don’t want to). There are lots of concerts and shows going on, lots to eat and drink, and I was able to find several games that were more like playing arcade/video games than gambling.

If you are afraid you are going to gamble too much, set yourself a limit and walk away when you reach it. If you want to have any winnings to bring home, keep your winnings separate from your playing money, and don’t dip into them when you run out of money to play with.

It’s not a place I would probably visit again by myself unless there was a concert I wanted to see, but it was a really fun place to spend my friend’s birthday, and close enough to home to not take very long to get there, but far enough away to feel like I was actually getting away for the weekend (Something about crossing state lines, even if it is closer to home that some places in my home state!)

Casinos in a cotton field  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

There you are…driving down highway 61…just cotton fields and casino billboards. I worked in the casinos there for a few years. Definitely worth exploring!
