My great-great-great grandfather and his son settled in Lockport when they come to the US from Switzerland waaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back when!! He helped build the canal and did some other work (as a blacksmith) for a couple years before hitching a ride on a boat over to Detroit where they settled permanently.

So my family went back to visit Lockport about 5 or 10 years ago and I thought it was boring then, but I think I would like to see it now that I understand history a little better!!! I would like to go back.

Worth visiting!

A rumor about this place

Many people in surrounding WNY think that Lockport is a hick town. But it defintly is not. It is a booming city. And unfortunely for me, Ive been living here for 16 years and have just begun to see the beauty of it. There are fine restaruants, beautiful parks along the Erie canal, a large library, exquisite houses and historical buildings, fun downtown shops and cafes, amazing opportunities for everyone, quick access to Buffalo and Niagara Falls, and not to mention the landmark locks and their museum. I would encourage anyone to come here. Even if its only for a day.
