    Worth visiting!

If you don’t want to get up early on the day of your visit to wait in line for the free tickets, you can order at nps.gov for a small fee. You must reserve pretty far in advance for peak summer and weekend days though.

It’s breathtaking at 5:30am when you’re on the beltway and the sun is just coming up….it’s more than that. I worked across the river from it and it never got boring. That was the thing I looked forward to every morning I went to work. As a kid or even teen living in Ohio, I never thought I’d live or get to work in DC, funny how things work out.

    Worth visiting!

I was 22 and my then boyfriend took me home to meet his family, (we’re both married to different people now). While there, he and his buddies gave me the “local’s tour” of DC, from Arlington National Cemetary to Washington National Cathedral to the Air & Space Museum. The best part was watching the Independance Day fireworks over the reflecting pool between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, situated about half way down the steps of Mr. Lincoln’s front stoop! Absolutely glorious and unforgettable! I hope someday to take my own family there for the same purpose.

I grew up near DC, we used to go here all of the time. We used to walk to the top then run down. You can only ride up now.
    It’s sad how everything changes.
I went up last summer 2006, the only thing I remember is that it kinda smelled funky.
