    I didn't do much here...  — 5 months ago

...because I was sick – just got the ferry over, photographed the skyline and got the ferry back again! It’s a really nice place for a picnic though, and when I go back again I definitely want to rent a canoe or a bike to see the islands properly.

I stayed at the Artscape international artists retreat centre at Gibraltar Point. I was there as part of a writer’s weeklong retreat. Totally awesome. The facilities were quite nice and I found myself being super productive.

We got to take advantage of all the things the islands have to offer. The beaches, the amusement park, the hedge maze, the board walks, everything was so much fun. Vehicles aren’t allowed on the islands, except for service vehicles, so we biked everywhere. It was like being in a European movie.

Sunsets on Lake Ontario can get really pretty too…

We rented a canoe from the Harbourfront Canoe/Kayak Club and paddled our way across. Next time…take sunscreen!

ohhh boy, the toronto islands are sooo fun I HIGHLY recomend going to them!!! Centre island is much fun for kids and you can rent bycicles for 4 or more people and go around the whole island..its so cool. If you go in the summer also it looks really cool when theres white fluff everywhere…it looks like snow!!

I was there for a concert. It was nice, I must say I have NEVER seen a sight as beautiful as coming back over the water on the ferry seeing Toronto at night!!!

Missed the last ferry...  — 2 years ago

When I lived in Toronto, a girlfriend and I hid from the guards and stayed on Centre Island overnight… We camped by the lakeshore, on the beach and had a really great evening… I highly recommend taking a look if you are in the area!

Hikes with the Bruce Trail  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

Bruce Trail does hikes on Thursday evenings throughout the months of May and June. I went for their first hike of the series yesterday and the place is gorgeous. I’ve never felt closer to being in Vancouver while still being in Ontario. Which is very, very important. Love the trees, the quiet, even the geese.

I’ve only been to Ward Island, but both times I found it to be one of the best bits of my holiday in Toronto. I’m from England and I just found it quite surreal- the minature houses, the tree with the weird lace dress on, the limbless mannequin in someone’s front garden, and the fact that Toronto is only 15 minutes away but seems like another world! I can’t wait to go back.

Taking the ferry to the Islands is a great way to spend a spring day, particularly if you know someone who lives there.
