A review of this place: Some of UK's best mountains

The term is used for the highland areas of Torridonian sandstone, a rock with a reddish tint in some lights. They spread over a wide area. In the southern part near Torridon, Applecross, Kinlochewe and Dundonnel, the mountains form considerable ranges. North of Ullapool and inland from Lochinver the mountains are lower, isolated but no less striking.

For me this area equals the Cuillin of Skye for the UK’s best mountain scenery
