Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Hollywood Boulevard is the stuff of legends, but it may not be what you expect. You won’t find movie stars walking the streets, and most of the movie studios moved out years ago, with Paramount the only one left in town and quite far from Hollywood Boulevard.

Frankly, this part of Hollywood is one of the most touristy spots in all of Los Angeles, full of t-shirt and souvenir shops, the streets packed with gawping tourists snapping photos.

•If you want to take photos with the dressed-up characters on the street, bring lots of change or $1 bills to tip them with.

I mean, it is what it is, but people (I’m mainly talking of tourists) think Hollywood in general is this amazing place where they’ll bump into celebs. If celeb sightings are your thing, they’re out during the week in places like West Hollywood and Santa Monica. You’ll occasionally bump into some in nicer parts of the valley (this is what I hear). But Hollywood in general isn’t what people are expecting (it’s kind of dirty and stinky). I used to stand on a bus stop on Hollywood & Highland and it would be funny to see tourists pass the Mc Donald’s and exclaim “there’s Marilyn’s star!” and then crouch down on the nasty side walk to get a picture of themselves next to the star…. ah, life in Los Angeles…

If you get your picture taken with one of the characters wandering the sidewalks (which I suggest, it was so fun!), don’t forget to tip! I had no idea I needed to tip them and I was really embarrassed, but they were really nice about it.

I really want to do it again!
