Barbican Arts Centre

I was hooked by the idea of “hairy” buildings and pods, but it was lots of architects models with poor labeling. Fun to browse through but a bit odd. The shop was good.

we wandered in on Thursday and I was stunned by this mixture of living space and arts in the middle of a city. There is a manmade lake and all the flats have riots of flowers and hanging plants so it is really lovely. We had a snack in a little cafe outside and enjoyed the gorgeous weather. Then we saw an odd artchitecture exhibit but I was starting to feel the jet lag and nodded off to sleep everytime I sat.

You either love it or you hate it. Concrete Brutalism, yet lovingly hammered by hand to reveal the grain of the aggregate.

The arts centre hosts a fantastic variety of events, from classical music to cutting-edge plays.
