Are you guys referring to ‘Promentary Point?’ I’ve never heard anyone call it simply ‘The Point.’

Nice spot in Hyde Park by the_postman

The Point is a very nice park area that juts into Lake Michigan. Close to the Museum of Science & Industry it’s a nice place to come and relax. Lots of open space for running around on, lot of barbaques happen, and on 4th of July you can get a nice view of the fireworks downtown (be sure to get there early for good seating). You can also swim in the lake too.

Hyde Park by scazza

While the picture here from flickr is way off and not the right location, The Point in Chicago is a wonderful park jutting out into Lake Michigan. Everyone barbeques, swims, walks along the lake.
