Zadar and the tourist region of Zadar are located in the very centre of the Croatian Adriatic, in the most indented part of the Adriatic archipelago. At a smaller or greater distance from Zadar are the national parks Plitvice, Paklenica, Krka and Kornati, nature parks Velebit and Telascica, as well as more than 300 islands and islets. Natural beauties, numerous coves and beaches, cultural and historical monuments, restaurants and hotels offering selected national specialities make Zadar and its surroundings one of the most attractive tourist regions of Croatia.

Tourist attraction of Zadar is also based on the combination of cultural tourism, yachting tourism, various types of accommodation and catering services, mediteranean atmosphere, charming beaches and promenades, excursions to closer and further surroundings, as well as interesting cultural, artistic and entertainment events and programs and, on especially valuable cultural and historical monuments.

There are three urban characteristics giving it a special physiognomy: street-nets built by the Roman architects, a surrounding bulwark built by the Venetians in the 16th C., and the New Waterfront built in the 19th C.

The historical part of Zadar is fascinating to all those who like historical monuments and cultural heritage. The church of St. Donat, the symbol of the city, is a must see in each itinerary, as well as the Permanent Exhibition of Sacral Art with about a thousand valuable exhibits from the past centuries, known under the popular name The Gold and Silver of Zadar.

In numerous restaurants and taverns of Zadar tourists should taste home-made specialities that evoke feelings of Mediterranean heritage. Among drinks, the first place belongs to the famous liqueur Maraskino. As early as the 19th century, this unique Zadar liqueur was a favourite drink at European courts (London, Paris, Vienna, Moscow, etc.) and has been produced in Zadar since 1821.

No matter how you arrive in Zadar – by sea, land or air, you are welcome as a dear guest, close friend and a well known acquaintance. Zadar is authentic Croatian and Mediterranean pearl on the Adriatic coast.

Some strong advise for those who suffer with the heat and sunburn and who want do some boat tours.

There are day tours that you can do of the Kornati National Park – It’s a boat trip of the archipelo of islands off Croatia that allows you some time on one of the isles.

If you go on one of these trips during the summer, make sure you bring some extra shade with you as most of the islands are barren of flush vegetation and decent tree shade. Some ships, if not all provide gazebos for passengers when they dock but if the tour crowd is large, you might not be lucky to get a spot in under them.

It’s a fanastic day of site seeing and the crew that we had were fantastic but my friends and I were forced to hide in the shadow of the boat due to the strong sun and heat. We were totally unprepared for that aspect of it
