Cape Spear

Great whale watching from the shore… an unexpected bonus on the most easterly point of North America.

There is, I’ve heard, some controversy as to whether Cape Spear actually IS the Easternmost point of North America.

Controversy aside, it is stunning to stand near the lighthouse, looking eastward as the sun rises, realizing Europe is beyond that horizon.

How could you not want to go here? It’s the most easterly point in all of north america!

It’s on the eastern coast of Newfoundland and it’s the most easterly point in Canada. There is currently some controversy because if Greenland is considered part of North America, then Cape Spear isn’t the most easterly point in North America. I visited in February because I wanted to go as far east as I could. It was bitterly cold, but I braved the cold and looked out at the ocean. It was beautiful and cold.
