You don’t know speed until you’ve been there.

The autobahn was great—very well maintained and with fast routes, but we wouldn’t recommend visiting Germany solely to drive the roads.

I lived in Germany for 5.5 years, but I was too young to drive. Now that I am old enough, I want to go back and burn some rubber. Sweet!

a rumor about this place is that it is a place, or rather a street! autobahn is simply the german word for freeway, expressway, highway, etc. there are indeed speed limits on certain stretches! but it is still fun to drive faster than allowed in the states!

...I drove from Frankfurt to Darmstadt each day – - sometimes I got my car up to 220km! Much too fast and naughty, but I loved the autobahn….......however, the thought of how I drove back then scares me completely now!!

The winding roads are so much better on the eyes than the straight American highways. I was jealous of the Audis and BMWs as my Fiat Punto was maxing out at about 160km/h.

I had in Germany. I went there for the weekend. I was in the UK for work in 2000, and I met a German girl in New Zealand in 1997 (I think), Manuela is her name. Anyway, I went to Germany for the weekend, stayed with her there, and she took me, her friend Jens, and a dude named Marcus to Dusseldorf for a night out a a discotheque – some bar in the city. I’d remember the name if I was sober right now ;-) Anyway. Jens is a complete anglophile (did I just make up another word?!), so we rode from Wuppertal to Dusseldorf in his mini (which had a union jack on the roof, and on a scarf in the back window, and with Blur and Oasis playing on the stereo) and we got up to 180km/hr on the Autobahn. I didn’t believe the speedo, but Manu confimed it was correct. I was astounded.
Good times.
