Why I want to go to this place  — 6 months ago

I added the Cloisters to my list last year. I’m more intrigued to visit after catching a few glimpses of them in a fun little movie on TV last night called Keeping the Faith.

You just feel as if you are a monk in the 12th century.  — 1 year ago

Who would’ve guessed they’d stick a medieval european monastery in the middle of a park in Inwood in the 1930s?

I was excited by the prospect of unicorns, only to discover they were all being stabbed to death by men with swords. This horrified me, and yet peaked some kind of morbid fascination.

    Great surroundings too.

It’s located within Inwood Hills/Fort Tryon Park… it’s a beautiful park. If you need a bathroom, you can visit the Cloisters. =] Actually, it’s very nice inside….

I don’t know what impressed me more, the tapestries or the gardens … but I’m leaning toward the gardens. Oh, and take the subway there, I loved coming out of the subway into the park.

Although I am no longer running with the type of people who frequent The Cloisters, I have been there a couple of times and found it to be a world class environment for food, fun and relaxation. It seems to be a balanced, controlled and exotic environment, with many families present. Dress codes are fairly stiff and I did not like that. Extras are very pricey, but worth the money if you can afford it. Staff are excellent.

New York City has everything – even it’s own medieval dwelling. This extension of the Met is uptown and is quiet a hike to get too. I highly recommend taking the bus here (do not take the subway – it’s not a fun trip through Fort Tyrone Park) on a nice spring day to view the beautiful gardens (both for medicinal and asethetic purposes of the medieval timeperiod). It tends not to be that crowded during the week. Since the Met is always “suggested admission”, I usually just pay a few dollars and immerse myself in the surroundings. One of the best places for relaxation and art.
