A review of this place

It’s a nice place to go on the weekdays. In the summer the place gets pretty crowded so the overflow walk across the street and sit on planters, although those even fill up from time to time. Pool table in the basement, but it’s sweltering down there. Close to the East End Garage (free parking after 5:30 and pretty sure all day on weekends) which doesn’t fill up. Ever. The people who go there tend to claim it as sacred ground, but they, too, will stop claiming to like it once the new clique takes over. I’ve never gotten anything but black coffee at any coffeehouse in Rochester, but I like the flavor of theirs. I do, however, deeply miss the Java’s mugs they used to have. Too many people stole them, I guess because they’re few and far between now. Good place to stop on a warm summer night with a few friends.

I don’t think it was called Java Joe’s. There’s another place called that.

I too went to Java’s through high school and on visits home from college. The frequency got embarrassing, but it’s a great place. The customers are interesting, the waitstaff is cool, and the decor’s warm and exciting. There’s self-consciousness without pretension.

Yeah, many night in high school this was the place to be, but don’t worry, it isn’t all high school crowds, in fact the high schoolers seem to buy their coffee and run off somewhere else. The clientel is ecclectic and the drinks are great, there is no reason not to stop at the little Rochester gem.

Pretty standard faux-bohemian cafe. Not not worth visiting.
