I grew up here and finally moved to Calgary.
Much of it looks nice – more trees per capita than Calgary for sure, but the downtown is getting sort of run down. Too many drunk natives asking you to spare some change, then they spend it on alcohol (liquor, lysol, mouthwash).
There are a few nice places to visit, like Japenese Gardens and fort whoop up, but every place has a few of these. It is close to Waterton and Glacier National Parks.
Demographically, lots of retired people, natives, mormons, college and university students.
It seems like a lot of people considered community leaders are pretty disfunctional. If you grow up and do business here, you know which elected officials are drunks who beat their kids, which law firm partners have been busted for selling drugs, etc.
Not that much opportunity for careers. It got so bad that its main draw for business is that you can rent space and hire people for less than anywhere else. As a result, they have attracted a few new phone centres, but what sort of a job is that.
You would be safer in most places in Calgary. I don’t know anyone who has been murdered here, but I know a couple in Lethbridge.
Dont speed, the police find it easire to fight minor traffic violations than crime.
