A review of this place: A boring city in the Gulf  — 8 months ago

    Not worth it!

Clubs, Discos, Alcohol and Rock Concerts are banned in Kuwait.
It is a boring place to visit and a city where there is little to see other than a few malls and the coastline.
In many ways it appears suspended in time.
Dubai in the UAE on the other hand is now a ‘world city’ poorer than Kuwait when it started, but clearly a pathbreaker in the region.

How this place changed my life  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

Kuwait..ahh..good old Kuwait. I come from a Palestinian home but my dad and mom moved to Kuwait in the 60’s till the early 80’s for work. My mom was a housewife of 5 children and my dad worked full time for an American Life Insurance company. I was born in Portland, Oregon in 1984 and flew back to Kuwait when I was only a week old. I remember it though, I ended up living in Kuwait for 5-7 years before it got invaded by Iraq. I have to admit though, it was so much fun. When the invasion happened my family and I were in Portland visiting my college brother and sisters. I remember having to write a paper in middle school about your home. And ended up witting it about Kuwait and how Saddam Hussein should be assassinated and swore up and down that I would some day enter politics because to me, i felt like Kuwait was my real home and Portland (even though i was born in it) was my 2nd home or my visiting home. Remember, i used to fly between Portland and Kuwait every month with my mom. Oh gosh, what a beautiful memory. I’m dying to go back and see my old house.

Why I recommend this place to visitors  — 1 year ago

Kuwait City is a beautiful sprawling city, the largest in kuwait, which is about the size of New Jersey. The Kuwaiti people are very friendly and supportive of americans and the city provides a great chance for people to get a taste of the Arabic culture, arts and cuisine in a safer environment. The Persian Gulf is a fabulous beautiful green and the Kuwaiti Towers is a must visit! The view from the top tower is breathtaking. The food in the Tower restaurant is also excellent. I had a wonderful time exploring this fascinating and complex city.

The hotel on the beach was one of the nicest I’ve been to but it was insanely hot.

Talk about people who know how to flaunt their riches!  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

It was almost scary, the huge class differences! I can’t even begin to list all the insanely expensive inmport cars I saw… But a sign of the times was that the most common vehicles were Mercedes. I saw many Diablos, Ferarris, and so on.

The city itself is very westernized. I went to a McDonalds and had a McArabian, drove by Red Robins, and drooled over their car lots.

The atmosphere at night is that of an extended party. However, if you are an American, be prepared for a bit of snobbish treatment.

    Not worth it!

I can’t say that I was too crazy about it, but every place is worth visiting at least once. Do I want to go back? Not really, but I have to every time I leave or return to Iraq. Hot as hell, and I only stayed a few days before catching my flight, so I didn’t do that much.
