This place was absolutely amazing. It was very beautiful and interesting. Tons of monkeys. You need to spend a couple of days here to take everything in. Bring a camera because you some pretty amazing structures.

I drank the best cup of coffee of my entire life at a motel in Tikal. No other cup of coffee will ever compare to that.

I went and saw Tikal, it was cool, I’m glad I did. But I would never go back. There is nothing else to see there or do. If you have no interest in ruins or history don’t bother with Tikal.

Get to the park early. Keep a lookout for turkeys and be prepared to get wet, real wet, if you get caught in the rain.
Fantastic views if you don’t mind the climb.

Don’t miss the temple of inscriptions! Tikal is fairly crowded with tourists, but almost nobody makes it to this site. The mile hike through the jungle is part of the experience.

The ruins are so beautifully preserved, you can imagine them, back in that day, brightly painted and adorned holding a home for the mayan people. There is a huge amount of area to cover in Tikal, I would definitly recommend hiring a guide, they know things that you would never learn on your own. For example, my guide walked us to this random mound of dirt at the beginning of our tour, we all looked around, hoping to see ruins, but there was nothing. Then the guide explained that underneath the dirt mound, that we stood on, was a whole mayan city; buried.

Bring rain gear. There are some temples you can climb on to get a canopy-eye view. Go and sit up top at 7am to get a good look at the tropical birds. Look for spider monkeys too.

    What a day.....  — 2 years ago

The thing I never realized before going here in person, was how large and spread out all the structures are. We wandered around almost five hours. One of the other things that was so neat was all the wildlife around…..vultures, monkeys, butterflies, birds of all kinds, foxes. It was incredible, and we had such a good day.
