My Spanish home  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

I lived in Alicante from January-May 2005 during a study abroad semester with USAC. During that time I lived with an amazing family who made me feel at home & welcome. They were so eager to help me learn the language & become integrated into the Spanish culture. Thank you Otero family! I loved my time in the city & made some amazing friends. There are so many days I wish I was back there hanging out on the beach or just walking through town getting lost.

I stayed here for a year after graduating college. I’d signed up for an intensive language program and I got to live with a woman for a month—Maria Carmen Fernandez. It was fantastic!!! I love the Spanish culture and people and language and way of life. Alicante has great diversity as far as things to do go. The beach and Esplanade are great!!! The castle is beautiful. And the night life rox!

The city I live in right now...  — 2 years ago

Not like a big city, Madrid or Barcelona, but’s it’s still reasonably cheap and I’ve found my place here (for now…)

Head for the Hills  — 2 years ago

    Not worth it!

Literally. The coast is a typical built up full of pubs and restaurants serving pizzas and ‘swedish’ food Spanish coast. The mountains and hills by Alicante are just gorgeous and filled with olive groves, orange groves and all kinds of flowers. Made one think you were flitting about in Europe’s orchard.

We all love spending time in the Orihuela coast just 30 mins outside of Alicante. Weather’s great.. beaches are lovely and people are very nice and approachable.

Alicante is a pretty tourist town on the Costa Blanca. Had one of the best vacations ever visiting my sister and her family, living in a Mediterranean Villa in the middle of nowhere and only minutes to Alicante… beautiful!

Best place I ever studied abroad  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

Okay so it’s unfortunately the only place I ever studied abroad, but that doesn’t matter – the city is amazing. I lived here in 2000 with a family so that I could take classes at the University. The city is very beautiful and vibrant, with people to match. I returned in 2004 to visit and was still taken aback by the friendly people and delicious regional dishes. The best time to go is at the end of June for their very famous week-long festival: Las Hogueras de San Juan…but honestly, there isn’t a bad time to visit Alicante – it’s a terrific city all year round.
