Durness

Since 1987 my wife and I (together with various dogs and children) have been coming to Durness every year – we are off there again tomorrow for a week. Quite simply we have fallen in love with this amazing part of the country. From Kinlochbervie up accross to Ben Hope and everything in between we think it is quite beautiful. The Scottish Primrose on Faraid Head, the torrent of water gushing down Smoo, the ‘7 little beaches’ as we have called them that you can get to between the first and second main balnakeil beaches when the tide is out, Ceannabeinne cottage (where we often stay) and the beach below, the secret beach beyond the old ruins of the former clearance site, the view from the top of Ben Hope – it is all quite wonderful. Do go if you get the chance!

I think this is the most beautiful place in the world….I’m going to have my ashes scattered her.
