I was part of a tour group, so was limited in how long I could explore. This aqueduct runs for miles, mostly underground. I’d love to trace the entire route and see all that remains.

Near here is the ancient village of glanum…also worth the visit.

It was amazing. Definitely worth seeing. If it’s warm out, bring a bathing suit and go swimming right by it. I wish I had!

It looked so modern and stable for something built in 19 BC. It was amazing to be near something so old.

Truly impressive by lbernad

This roman aqueduct makes me feel dumb. Centuries ago, the romans were using this as a water pipeline to move water. and not only that, but the aqueduct is absolutely stunning!

One of my favorite places to go and just sit and think and be.

This is a truly impressive building (and UNESCO world heritage site) to stumble across unawares (as I did whilst out mountain biking when I first moved to the area), but has become a bit of a tourist trap in recent years. I don’t think you’re allowed to walk across the top anymore either — although that’s probably a good thing!

You can avoid the tourists and experience ‘discovering’ it for yourself by walking along the GR (path) from Collias (great place for swimming in the river) but depending on where you start it’d take a few hours. BTW you can eat the marble-sized bumpy little red fruit (with squishy orange insides) growing on bushes (Arbutus / tree strawberries) but may not find them to your liking.
